Moringa: The Original Superfood, Rediscovered

Why this humble Tamil Nadu leaf packs more iron than spinach and more calcium than milk, and how to fold it into everyday meals.

Long before wellness aisles filled up with green powders, farmers across Tamil Nadu were drying moringa leaves in the shade and stirring them into dals, rasams and buttermilk. It is one of the most nutrient-dense plants on earth, a complete protein with all nine essential amino acids, plus iron, calcium and vitamin C in quantities that put most vegetables to shame.

The trick is in how the leaves are handled. Sun-baked or heat-blasted leaves lose colour, aroma and a large share of their micronutrients. Shade drying at low temperature keeps the chlorophyll intact, which is why our moringa still smells green and grassy when you open the pouch.

A teaspoon in your morning smoothie, a spoon stirred into warm dal, or a pinch in flatbread dough is all it takes. Start small, it is powerful stuff.
